How nice to find a lively audio discussion forum. Here, the main topics of conversation are home theater (obviously) and related subjects, with an emphasis on tweaking surround sound systems to get the most out of each particular room and installation. Lots of threads and information about room equalization, sub-woofer installation, and “BFD” - which turns out to be the Behringer Feedback Destroyer, a room EQ device that is especially useful for working with subs. You’ll also find about 20 other forum areas with titles like “Subwoofer Tests,” “Speakers,” and “Video Display Devices.”

Strange name for an audiophile loudspeaker company, but once you see the speakers, you’ll get the idea. Their distinctive designs look anything but boxy, mostly variations on round. They’re designed by two guys from Bulgaria, and these young men have the East European 5 o’clock shadows to prove it. I’m not sure where you’re going to be able to listen to the speakers. But then again, gear that looks this good isn’t likely to sound really bad. And in high-end loudspeaker design these days, cool looks seem to be more important than absolute audio perfection anyway. I would definitely like to have a pair or five of the Everything But the Box Terra LA model in my home studio, just for appearances.

Quanta Web Design for Musicians and Artists: Get a professional new website to promote your band, announce gigs, news and MP3s, build your fan base. Get hip, fresh new design, at a price an indie musician can afford.

Most indie musicians build their own web sites, or get a page at MySpace or similar community sites. And it shows. Most self-built artist sites are a an embarrassment, and they do nothing to enhance the image of the band, or to entice site visitors into checking out the music. Quanta looks like a great place to turn, if you take your music and public image seriously. A basic site package for musicians is quoted at $400, and they obviously do good work.
