Those researching for a custom knife will eventually discover that Mercworx knives are created by one knife maker that does all of the grinding, sculpting, sanding, fitting, fabrication and final finishing by hand. They are designed as fighting knives for professionals in the field. Mercworx knives are better made and better finished than other knife makers. The larger knives available by Mercworx are made of 1/4 inch 154CM steel, and upgrade to the S30V steel. 154cm is the best steel for hard used knives. Because of the thickness of the blades, even the smallest of the knives will make a large wound. Mercworx chose to fine-sand their blades over bead blasting to make the knives tougher and easier to clean.

The knives are quite nice because of Mercworx's overall design and craftsmanship. The Mercworx knives are outstanding because of the balance design and feel. All the large Mercworx knives feature Mercworx's unique upswept thumb ramp on the top of the knives. So when you push against an object the blade will not slice your palm. The blades are made with protrusions that keep your hand from sliding foreword. You will notice that the handle sports standard black micarta that is fixed to the handle, and are made to cope with sub-zero temperatures. The knives also have a large blade (land area), which makes the knife heavier for chopping and prying.

They feature a smooth handle because it serves as both a comfortable tool in your hand and provides firm retention during confrontations. You can have the best of both as Mercworx spent a lot of time designing and creating a handle that covers both. The knives feature a thumb stop, to make the knives more usable. The user can wield the knife in what is known as the extended saber grip by pushing on the stop to align the blade with the centerline of his forearm. This way the knife will seem to be an extension of your forearm. The flared tip on the knives blades are designed that way to make maximum damage upon penetration. An hollow point bullet works the same way.
